Give-a-pig is an initiative that aims at helping the poorest farmers in the north east of Thailand by giving them one or more pigs.
A baby pig will be given to a poor family in the region. The pigs are old enough to leave their
mothers and are all vaccinated.
Together with the pig, we give a large bag of high nutrition pigfood for the first period of time. After that the pig is big and strong enough to eat any other kind of food that the family can
give, like leftovers and the side product that occurs when preparing the harvested rice.
New is that some schools in the regions are asking us for a pig as well.
They want to use the pig to teach the children how to take care of it. This could be a nice idea for schools in Europe or U.S.A.
Instead to give the pig to a poor family, they could choose to give the pig to a school.
“Give-a-pig” will provide you with a piggybank which you can use to collect money.
Together with the piggybank you will get an information sheet which explains
all about the program to whoever wants to know and/or participate.
If you live outside of the provence "South-Holland / The Netherlands" , and you would like to receive a piggybank, we charge you at least 10 euros depending of where you live.
In that case the piggybank is yours and you don't have to return it.
This to compromise the expenses that we have to make.
The collector can be a company, a club, a shop, an office, a school, or just anybody who likes to participate.
Of course it is possible that no piggybank is desired.
In that case the money can just be put into the account of “HOAT” in one time.
In case of a piggybank, the collector collects 60 euros. He/she can do that alone or together with colleagues, members, friends or customers.
(Realize though that it is the company who gets something back for it so it is the company in the first place that is asked to donate and not the customers of the company.
In other words: this project is asking the company in the first place to donate money.
We say this because sometimes we get the message that no customers are putting money into the piggybank.
It’s the company who gets back the photo to put on the wall, and it’s the company who gets the
publicity on our website).
The reason we choose to give a pig is because pigs are really wanted in the region because of the bird flue. Cows and beef are much more expensive.
A pig is much cheaper than a cow and for that reason easier to donate.
We are in contact with the district office in the region to know which families are the poorest, so only the poorest farmers will be candidate to get a free pig.
